Adjust font size:

The number of road accidents in China dropped in 2007, according to the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) said here Thursday.

In 2007, 327,209 road accidents occurred with 81,649 people killed, 380,442 injured, down 13.6 percent, 8.7 percent and 11.8 percent respectively over those of 2006, MPS figures show.

There were 26 serious accidents in which more than 10 persons were killed each in 2007. A total of 389 persons were killed in these accidents, down 30.2 percent year on year.

Source with the MPS said the main reason for the decrease is the stronger measures to regulate traffic, but failed to provide more details.
