A harmless rubbish landfill yard recently opened in Shangrao, in eastern China's Jiangxi Province, to handle rubbish from nearby areas.

Jiangxi-based newspaper the Information Daily reported that the city government invested 91.9 million yuan (around 12.4 million US dollars) in the landfill which, with a capacity of 5.1 million cubic meters, can filter 800 tons of rubbish every day.

The landfill is equipped with four systems for leak proofing, drainage, leachate pumping and flame retardation. Facilities for gas eduction and treatment, disinfection and pest control, and rain and groundwater removal are also included.
