Adjust font size:

A cargo bus overturned in Chongqing Municipality on Saturday, killing eight passengers and injuring two others, a newspaper reported today.

The ambulances could not reach the victims quickly due to treacherous roads, according to Chongqing Evening Newspaper.

The cargo bus was traveling from Miaotang Village to Pinghe Village when it overturned in Chongching's Wushan County.

Six passengers were killed immediately and two died in hospital on Monday after villagers took them to the ambulance.

The injured passengers are in stable condition now, the report added.

Chongqing has enacted traffic limits on some highways and closed others, according to Chongqing Online.Com.

Snowstorms overwhelmed Chongqing last week and over the weekend, affecting more than five million people and causing a direct economic loss of 860 million yuan (US$119.44 million). More than 5,547 people have been evacuated.
