One worker was killed and five others were injured in an explosion at a chemical plant on Wednesday in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province.

The explosion took place at an ammonia synthesis facility at about 9:10 a.m. A company spokesman said it did not cause environmental pollution due to the timely response by the Nanjing Chemical Industry Group.

The five injured, including two serious, were taken to hospital and were recovering, the spokesman added.
