Blizzard-Hit Inner Mongolia Needs Urgent Aid

China Charity Federation (CCF) announced Monday that the country’s disaster-hit Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is still suffering from serious conditions and called for urgent aid from people from all walks of life across the country.

Meteorological information indicates that it will take 90 to 120 days for the frozen region to thaw. Large amounts of snow has blocked traffic and besieged houses.

Local statistics show that up to now, some 70,000 people are being tortured with bad colds and frostbite. About 100,000 herdsman households are suffering from fuel shortage and some 400,000 are suffering from a lack of food.

Sources said that materials such as clothes, heating facilities, fuel, instant food, cold and anti-frostbite medicines, are among the most needed list of the disaster-stricken region.

By January 21, CCF has sent disaster-relief funds worth some 3. 2 million yuan (US$385,542) and materials to ease the emergent situations in the region.
