Indonesian Leader Meets Chinese FM

Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri yesterday met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan.

Both sides expressed the hope to boost mutually beneficial cooperation in various spheres.

Thanking the Chinese Government for its US$400 million loan on favorable terms to her country, Megawati said the Indonesian Government hoped to speed up cooperation with China in major projects and to boost friendly relations.

Tang Jiaxuan said relations between the two countries have entered a new era of rapid development.

The two sides agreed that priority should be given to agriculture, energy, resource development and infrastructure construction in future cooperation.

He said the Chinese Government hoped to keep the current momentum that has developed in these areas.

Tang arrived here on Thursday night and held a formal meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda yesterday, discussing bilateral relations and other issues relating to the international arena.
