Top Chinese legislator Li Peng said Wednesday he hopes China's National People's Congress (NPC) and the Thai parliament will increase exchange and cooperation to further contribute to development of relations between the two countries.
Li, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, made the remark at a meeting with the visiting Thai National Assembly delegation headed by Rocha Vipattipumiprates, chairman of the military committee of the house of representatives.
Li said China and Thailand had cooperated smoothly in various areas like politics, law, trade and economics, and culture during the past 27 years of diplomatic ties. The two countries also coordinated well in international and regional affairs.
The Chinese side is willing to work together with Thailand in carrying out the joint statement the two countries signed for cooperation in the 21st century, thus deepening the relationship of good neighborliness and mutual trust.
Li said the two parliaments had maintained sound exchanges and communication, which helped increase understanding and trust between them.
Rocha Vipattipumiprates said he was deeply impressed by China's great changes during his several visits to China, attributing the achievements to China's stable society and sound policies.
The Thai and Chinese peoples enjoyed deep friendship, said Rocha Vipattipumiprates, expressing hope that Thai parliamentarians are ready to further develop the existing friendship between the two parliaments.
