Talent Pianist to Give Piano Recital in HKSAR

Celebrated in music capitals throughout the world and demonstrating an extraordinary ability to connect with audiences, Chinese pianist Lang Lang will give a piano recital on August 28 at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Center.

The recital was rescheduled from its original date in April due to the unavailability of the artist at that time. The program will feature Schumann's "Variations on the name 'Abegg' for Piano in F", Haydn's "Piano Sonata in E", Rachmaninov's "Piano Sonata No 2 in B-flat Minor", Tan Dun's "Eight Memories in Watercolor" and some other piano pieces.

Born in Shenyang City of northeast China's Liaoning Province, Lang Lang has established himself, at just 20, as one of the most exciting pianists of our time.

He has performed with the world's most distinguished orchestras from New York to London and given recitals from Paris to Tokyo.

His career highlights include a live-recorded Proms debut at London's Royal Albert Hall and a sold-out Carnegie Hall debut. His Philadelphia Orchestra performance at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing drew 8,000 people.

A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Lang Lang has won numerous awards, including first prize at the Second Tchaikovsky International Young Musicians' Competition and the first Leonard Bernstein Award for distinguished musical talent.

"Piano Recital by Lang Lang", part of the "Encore Series", is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong.
