Beijing plans to stage a number of activities between September 20 and October 20 to celebrate its 850th anniversary as the Chinese capital. The celebration is a response to an appeal of a number of famous Chinese scholars, who said it is time for the Chinese capital to look back on its long path, the many ups and downs taken by the city, leading it to where it is today.
