China to Help Repair Mao Zedong Boulevard in Phnom Penh

The Municipality of Phnom Penh and the China Geo-Engineering Corporation agreed on the rehabilitation of the Mao Zedong Boulevard on Friday.

Under a contract, the Chinese company will repair or build the surface, footpath, signs and road markings, traffic signals and drainage system of the boulevard.

It will be completed with a loan of RMB 19 million Yuan (some US$2.31 million) from the Chinese government.

The road started construction on March 22, 1965 under the initiative of Samdech Nordom Sihanouk, Cambodian head of state, who sponsored its inauguration ceremony and named it.

It, with a total length of 5.1 kilometers, is one of the busiest streets in the Municipality of Phnom Penh.
