Typhoon May Force Shanghai Bourse into Suspension
Adjust font size:

Trading on the Shanghai Stock Exchange could be suspended on Wednesday due to the imminent arrival of super typhoon Wipha in Shanghai, according to an urgent notice published on its website.

Wipha, packing winds of 198 kilometers per hour, is expected to hit Shanghai on Wednesday.

The Shanghai bourse said it was entitled to take temporary emergency measures if the super typhoon were to affect the normal functioning of its trading or communications systems, citing the exchange's trading regulations.

It asked "parties concerned" to be prepared for possible emergency measures and explain them to the investors.

The Shanghai Composite Index, the benchmark indicator of the currently bullish Chinese market, rose 0.07 percent to close at a fresh record of 5,425.21 points on Tuesday.
