Mainland woos overseas Chinese investors
Adjust font size:

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao encouraged overseas Chinese business people to optimize their investment structure and raise the standard of their investments on the Chinese mainland.

Wen made the remarks on Wednesday afternoon when he met deputies to the opening ceremony of the China Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs Association.

Wen congratulated the association on its establishment, and wished the overseas Chinese entrepreneurs who attended the opening ceremony well in their business activities.

He said overseas Chinese had actively participated in the mainland's reform and opening-up and modernization. "They have played a unique role in the process and made outstanding contributions."

The government would continue to push forward reform and opening to the outside world, he said. This was also the common wish of all Chinese people, including scores of millions of overseas compatriots, he said.

Wen said the association should adhere to the principles of "strengthening bonds of friendship, providing services and promoting cooperation and development".

It should sincerely serve overseas Chinese business people and actively report their opinions and requirements, while acting as a nexus between the government and overseas Chinese business people, Wen added.

He also urged governments at all levels to create a favorable investment environment and protect their interests.
