The Project Hope in east China's Anhui Province received a grant of 4 million yuan (about US$481,928) Monday for construction of new schools for children.

This was the largest grant to the Project Hope in Anhui Province within the past 15 years and will be used for the construction of 10 primary schools in Jinzhai County and the assistance of 1,000 poverty-stricken students in Anhui.

Cao Yong, director of the Office for Project Hope in Anhui said that a total of 140 million yuan (approximately US$16.87 million) has been raised since the project was started in 1989.

So far, 400 primary schools have been built in Anhui and 140,000 poverty-stricken school children assisted, he said.
