Tianjin to Stage Woodcut Exhibition

North China's Tianjin Municipality is scheduled to stage a woodcut show from Tuesday to the end of July as one of the steps to protect folk culture and arts.

According to the Yangliuqing Studio, the upcoming show will also help youngsters to have a better understanding of the top-notch folk art form.

The show will be divided into three parts including exhibits on historical events, the New Year woodcut pictures and old-fashioned woodcuts, the studio said, adding that most of the woodcuts on show will be the only existing copy.

Some traditional art experts will demonstrate woodcutting skills during the exhibition.

The Yangliuqing Woodcut New Year Picture has been put on the State protection list as early as in the 1950s.

And the Yangliuqing Studio was set up to protect the traditional art, which has preserved 6,508 old-fashioned woodcut copies.
