Cultural Giant -- Confucius Newsreel Issued

A ceremony for first issue of large special newsreel Cultural Giant -- Confucius was held Tuesday in Qufu, birth place of the greatest Chinese thinker.

The newsreel, containing 30 serials, is the first film to wholly introduce Confucius and his thoughts, along with his wisdom and personality charm, and will be issued simultaneously in China and abroad for Confucius believers and researchers all over the world.

Confucius was a great ancient Chinese educator and philosopher born in Qufu. This year is the 2556th anniversary of his birth.

"Confucius not only belongs to China but also the world, and there is no shirking the responsibility for the Chinese to spread Confucius' thinking," said general producer Li Chengjun, who is also honorary president of Hong Kong Confucius Academy.

Zhang Liwen, professor with the People's University of China, described the newsreel as "elaborate works" for education of traditional cultures, patriotism and morality.

The newsreel gave an appropriate explain on Confucius and his thoughts from different angles and in different ways, said Tu Weiming, professor of Chinese history and philosophy at Harvard University in the United States.
