Hong Kong's Light Show Gets Guinness Recognition

On Monday, a Guinness World Records certificate was given to Hong Kong's light and sound show around Victoria Harbor for being the largest permanent show of its kind in the world.

"The award...is a great encouragement to us," said Hong Kong's Commissioner for Tourism Eva Cheng. "We will continue to work hard for the Phase II Show with a view to further enhancing the attraction of this tourism project and the night vista of our Victoria Harbor."

Guinness' Head of Records Marco Frigatti presented the certificate to Cheng at an afternoon ceremony recognizing the show, named "A Symphony of Lights," as the world's "Largest Permanent Light and Sound Show."

The 13-minute synchronized show takes place 20 high-rises on Hong Kong Island facing north across Victoria Harbor.

Since its launch in January 2004, the daily show has become a popular sight at night for both locals and visitors.

Hong Kong's tourism authority vowed to keep the project going and work more on it to promote local tourism.

Until May of this year, more than 3 million people had viewed it, according to the tourism authority.
