China has launched a web site on Xibaipo, an old revolutionary base in north China's Hebei Province, to mark the 110th birth anniversary of Mao Zedong, founder of the People's Republic of China.

The web site provides stories, photos, audio and video in both Chinese and English about the history of the revolutionary base, which was the last headquarters of the Communist Party of China (CPC) before it took over Beijing in 1949.

From May 1948 to early 1949, top CPC leaders Mao Zedong, Liu Shaoqi, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De and Ren Bishi lived at the small village of Xibaipo, where they launched three critical campaigns to create the People's Republic of China and drew the blueprint of a new country.

The year 2003 is the 55th anniversary of the entering of the CPC headquarters into Xibaipo.

The web site will act as a database and education base to publicize the spirit and history of the Party, said Li Zhentai, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Committee of Hebei Province.

The www.xibaipo.gov.cn site was put into operation on Oct. 30, jointly run by a provincial Party web site in Hebei, the People's Daily and the Museum of Xibaipo.
