Yunnan Dancers Grace Chengdu

The Golden Lotus Award winning dance performance Dynamic Yunnan by Chinese dancer Yang Liping was staged on Saturday in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province.

The choreography was simple but intense. The majority of the performance was carried out by a core of ten dancers.

The performance used abstract expressionism to describe something of the culture of the ethnic minorities in southwest China's Yunnan. Given the name and the content of the dance, it may not come as a surprise that Yang Liping herself is originally from Yunnan.

The show will now embark on an extensive world tour after its successful debut in China.

Yang Liping became an overnight success in 1986 after performing her solo dance "The Spirit of the Peacock" in a national contest.
