First 8 films confirmed to compete Berlin Int'l Film Festival

First eight films have been confirmed to compete for Golden Bear of the 58th Berlin International Film Festival, the organizers announced on Monday.

The films are from China, Brazil, Mexico, Britain, the United States, Poland and Germany.

Among others, Chinese director Wang Xiaoshuai, who won Silver Bear with Beijing Bicycle in 2001, will this time present Zuo You (In Love We Trust) in the upcoming festival.

The film tells a story that the mother of a child who has cancer wants to save her firstborn and resorts to unusual measures. Liu Weiwei, Zhang Jiayu and Yu Nan play the leading roles.

According to the organizers, Golden Bear winner Paul Thomas Anderson from the U.S. will present There Will Be Blood.

The film recounts the remarkable story of an unsuccessful silver miner who rises to become a U.S. oil magnate in the early 20th century.

The selection for the competition program of the festival will be completed by mid-January 2008.
