Heavy Snow in NE China Affects Traffic
Adjust font size:

Snow on Sunday in northeast China's Liaoning Province forced the closure of some local expressways.

With heavy snow and icy roads the authorities closed ring expressways in urban areas of Shenyang, capital city of Liaoning. Some sections of expressway linking Shenyang with a number of major cities in northeast China including Dandong, Dalian, Fushun and Harbin were also shut.

But the main expressway linking Shenyang and the Chinese capital of Beijing was kept open and normal traffic flow maintained.

The closure of roads forced car users to railway stations. Thousands of people lined up in front of ticket windows at Shenyang Railway Station to change their travel arrangements from road to rail.

According to the local meteorological station the expressways wouldn’t open Sunday night due to falling temperatures and continued icing.

Local traffic police and government officials were working on de-icing.
