Campaign Launched to Improve Work Safety Awareness

A new national campaign, with the purpose of improving the work safety awareness, was launched on Sunday in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province.

The theme of the campaign is "abiding by rules and laws, caring for life", said Li Yizhong, director of the General Administration of Work Safety (GAWS), at a ceremony specially held to mark start of the campaign, the fourth of the kind.

"I hope through the campaign, the whole society will have developed a sense of law that combines safety as well," said Li.

The campaign this year is sponsored jointly by five organizations including GAWS. It will focus on Guangdong, Hunan and Hubei provinces and will conclude on June 29.

Apart from the campaign, the Chinese Government has also named June as the "month of work safety", in order to step up public awareness in this regard.

Statistics show various kinds of accidents across the country left over 130,000 people killed and 700,000 others injured last year.
