Political Advisors Discuss 11th Five-Year Plan

The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top advisory body, offered suggestions on China's eleventh Five-Year Plan at a two-day forum held recently in Beijing.

Chinese Vice-Premier Zeng Peiyan, Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu and State Councilor Hua Jianmin attended the forum to hear opinions and suggestions rendered by members of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC.

On the basis of in-depth studies, more than 40 CPPCC members, including some Standing Committee members, made suggestions on the eleventh Five-Year Plan at the forum. Their suggestions included improving scientific and technological innovative capability, pushing forward urbanization with Chinese characteristics, promoting the coordinated development of regional economy, improving income distribution system and deepening structural reform.

In a keynote speech, Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said during the eleventh Five-Year period (2006-2010), China will face complicated domestic and overseas circumstances. Opportunities and challenges will coexist.

Under such circumstances, members of the CPPCC National Committee should constantly conduct research and make accurate judgments on important economic issues so as to offer dependable advice to policy-makers.
