CPC Central Committee Plenary Set for October

The 5th Plenary Session of the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) will open in October this year, according to the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau on Monday.

The bureau meeting was chaired by Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

They discussed the formulation of the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010), describing it as the key period for the construction of a wealthy society and saying it would be guided by Deng Xiaoping Theory, the Three Represents, scientific development and the strategy of development, with adherence to the focus of economic construction.

They agreed that this year's economic reforms and macroeconomic controls had made progress, with the economy having maintained stable and rapid growth but that the task for reform and development will still be arduous in the latter half of this year.

They called for departments at all levels to continue implementing the concept of scientific development and enhancing macroeconomic controls by sticking to prudent fiscal and monetary policy.
