A senior official with the Communist Party of China (CPC) was entrusted Wednesday by the party's central committee with the task of conveying the main contents of the fifth plenary session of the 16th CPC Central Committee to non-CPC personalities.

Liu Yandong, head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, conveyed the main contents of the session to the leaders of democratic parties and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and some figures from non-party, ethnic and religious circles.

Learning and implementing the key conclusions of the session will be one of the main political tasks for both the CPC and the Chinese government in the near future, said Liu, who is also vice chairwoman of the National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

She encouraged people from non-CPC circles to devote their talents and wisdom to exercising their unique role in promoting the sound development of China's economy and society.

"CPC welcomes proposals from you as an aid to scientific decision-making processes in the government and the CPC," she said.

According to Liu, China will make the enhancement of innovation capabilities a strategic point in developing science and technology and a key factor in adjusting industrial structures and shaping approaches to growth. The fundamental aim is to constantly improve the country's core competitiveness, she said.
