NPC Vice-chairman Stresses Fulfillment of Lawmaking

Wang Zhaoguo, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, stressed on Wednesday that legislators should improve the quality of legislation and fulfil their lawmaking obligation within the term.

The 10th National People's Congress (NPC) and its standing committee, China's top legislature, has enacted an amendment to the Constitution and 52 new laws, law interpretations and other regulations in the recent three years.

Addressing a legislation work conference held here Wednesday, Wang said that the NPC standing committee and the legislators should improve the quality of lawmaking and make efforts to establish a socialist legal system with Chinese characteristics.

Wang stressed that legislation must be carried out under the Party's leadership in systematic and legislative aspects. Legislation should take lawmaking work on economic and social development issues as priorities.

Wang warned legislators against making national laws into sectional or regional ones and for properly handling a balance between national power and public interests to ensure the legal rights and interests of individuals and organizations.
