China, Togo to Further Enhance Military Ties

China is ready to join hands with Togo to further strengthen bilateral military relations, said Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan in Beijing Wednesday.

Cao, also vice chairman of the Central Military Commission and State Councilor, made the remarks during his official talks with Kpatcha Gnassingbe, minister delegate in the Presidency in charge of Defense and Veterans.

Invited by Cao, Kpatcha arrived in Beijing Tuesday for a five-day official goodwill visit to China.

Cao said the two countries' friendly, cooperative ties have been strengthened since they forged diplomatic ties. China appreciates Togo's firm support to China on the Taiwan issue.

He said the armed forces of the two countries enjoy profound traditional friendship. In recent years, the exchanges and cooperation between the two armed forces have been continuously enhanced.

"China is willing to make joint efforts with Togo to advance the traditional friendship between the two countries and the two armed forces," he said.

Kpatcha said Togo attaches great importance to the exchanges and cooperation between the two armed forces. He hopes his current China trip will further cement the existing friendly cooperative ties between the two countries and their armed forces.

He also voiced his appreciation for the precious assistance that the Chinese government and people offered to Togo's economic and social development.

Cao held a welcome ceremony for Kpatcha's China visit prior to the talks.
