Adjust font size:

Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said in Singapore Sunday that China appreciates Singapore's one-China policy and its support for China's reunification cause.

"We appreciate that Singapore has made clear its one-China policy and its support for China's reunification cause," Wen told a press briefing after the bilateral talks with his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong.

"We have discussed the cross-straits situation," Lee said at the briefing, "We support the one-China policy and opposes 'Taiwan independence'."

Lee said Singapore's policy on the Taiwan issue will not change.

Wen arrived in Singapore on Sunday afternoon for an official visit to the country.

It is the first visit by a Chinese premier to Singapore in eight years.

After the visit, Wen will attend the 11th ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) plus Three (China, Japan and South Korea) Summit, the 11th China-ASEAN Summit, the third East Asia summit, and the eighth annual meeting of leaders of China, Japan and South Korea.
