A female student shot two dead before killing herself on Friday in a vocational technical college in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, according to a CNN report.

Baton Rouge police spokesman Don Kelly told CNN that officers arrived at Louisiana Technical College around 8:36 a.m. (1336 GMT) after receiving a 911 call and found three female victims already dead in a classroom on the second floor of the school building, including the shooter herself.

Preliminary investigation showed that the 23-year-old gunwoman shot the two fellow students, 21 and 26, in their seats with around 20 people in the classroom at the time.

Police has begun a thorough investigation, questioning witnesses and looking for the motivation of the shooting, Kelly said.

"This is a tragic day for Baton Rouge, when you come to a learning institution ... and become the victim of a violent crime," Mayor Kip Holden told the reporters at the scene.

Classes were canceled through Tuesday, and expected to be resumed on Wednesday, school officials said.

This was the third shooting incident in a week. A gunman carrying a grudge against the Kirkwood city government in the state of Missouri broke into a city council meeting on Thursday, killing five and injuring several others.

Last Saturday, a man shot five women dead in a robbery at a clothing store in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. He is still at large.
