Wen Promotes 3-point Proposal on Sino-Micronesian Ties

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao put forward a three-point proposal Wednesday to improve the relationship between China and Micronesia

The proposal is to increase contacts between parliaments and unofficial organizations to enhance political trust; to promote cooperation for mutual benefit on fishery and agriculture; and to have more consultations on south-Pacific issues to contribute to regional stability and development.

Wen told visiting Micronesian President Joseph J. Urusemal that all nations, big or small, have equal footings, and China is ready to further the relations with south-Pacific nations based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence.

Wen spoke highly of the adherence of Micronesia to the one-China policy. Urusemal reaffirmed that Micronesia is committed to the policy.

Urusemal said that he has had good talks with Chinese leaders on his visit. Micronesia will take measures to realize the common ground reached by the two sides to promote the mutual benefit, he added.
