Chinese High-tech Firm Aims High in Asia-Pacific
Huawei Technologies Corporation, China's giant telecom equipment supplier, aims to become the biggest telecom network solution provider for the Asia-Pacific region, the firm's vice-president William Xu has said.

According to Monday's the Business Day, Xu said in a recent interview with the Thai newspaper, Huawei will expand its business into the whole Asia-Pacific region, based on its success in domestic market.

The hi-tech firm already has a 20-percent share in the Asia-Pacific market and it is determined to become the largest player in the region with over 35 percent market share in the next few years.

With a 76-percent share in the domestic market, Huawei has provided telecom network solutions for fixed-line, mobile, data communications network and other value-added services for Chinese cell phone operators including China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, China Railcom and China Netcom.

The Shenzhen-based hi-tech firm is providing its latest intelligent network (IN) technology for Thailand's largest mobile phone operator, Advanced Info Services (AIS).

IN allows cell phone operators to transmit animated picture, voice data and video images via their clients' handsets efficiently.

Huawei's IN technology has proven a success in overseas markets including Singapore, Malaysia, Russia, Peru, Germany, Thailand swell as China's Hong Kong, said Xu.

The firm posted a combined sales revenue of US$2.41 billion last year, with 40 customer service centers established all over the world.
