Spring Festival Crush on Subways

Shanghai's metro lines are expected to carry up to 2 million passengers a day during the Spring Festival, up 10 percent from the same period last year, the Shanghai Metro Operation Co said yesterday.

The metro lines are expected to handle about 10 percent of all out-going travelers during the 40-day Spring Festival travel period that ends on February 22. The average will be about 1.65 million commuters a day. The company said several transfer stations such as Shanghai Railway Station and Shanghai Southern Railway Station will open temporary ticket windows.
