Indonesian Budget Carrier to Open China Route

Indonesia's low-cost carrier PT Sriwijaya Air has planned to open international routes to the Chinese city of Guangzhou in the near future, its executive said Thursday.

Sriwijaya also will fly new routes to neighboring Singapore and Malaysia, the company's president Chandra Lie said.

"We have asked the permits for the international flights to the Transportation Department," he was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying.

To support the international flights, PT Sriwijaya Air planned to increase the number of its planes from 15 to 25, he added.

"We currently have 15 planes, but this year we will add 10 moreBoeing737 of 300, 400 and 800 types," he said.
