Annan Tours Famous Chinese Scenic Resort

The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) Kofi Annan on Saturday toured the renowned Mount Huangshan in east China's Anhui Province.

 

Annan praised the protection measures put in place on Huangshan, including putting special covers on pines and building ecological toilets.

 

Shrouded in cloud about 200 days a year, Mount Huangshan is popular with traditional Chinese landscape painters. It is included on the World Heritage List.

 

Before his arrival at picturesque Huangshan on Friday evening, Annan met with Chinese President Hu Jintao in Beijing on Friday afternoon.

 

During his four-day trip to China, Annan will also meet and confer with Premier Wen Jiabao and State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan, tour the main stadium for the 2008 Olympics and talked to studentsof prestigious Beijing University.
