S. Korean Govt. to Issue Travel Advisory on Thailand

South Korean government will issue a travel advisory to ask its citizens away from Thailand as military coup occurred in Thailand late Tuesday, the South Korean Yonhap News Agency said Wednesday.

"We are worried about the safety of South Korean travelers there," a Foreign Ministry official said. "We will issue a travel advisory on Thailand today."

The Thai army launched a coup Tuesday night to oust Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who is attending the U.N. General Assembly in New York.

According to Yonhap, about 800,000 South Koreans visit Thailand every year and there are 22,000 South Koreans are resident in Thailand.
