Amusement park opens to rival Disneyland
Adjust font size:

A major Disneyland-type amusement park covering 1.25 million square meters has opened on a trial basis in Wuhu city, east China's Anhui Province.

The FantaWild Adventure Theme Park is almost the same size as the Hong Kong Disneyland, but has more emphasis on water features with 720,000 square meters of water surfaces.

The park's "high-tech" facilities are at the forefront of its promotion, and its 300 features include "Mysterious River Valley", "Volcano Vesuvius" and "Dinosaur Island".

A spokesman said the park was built at a cost of 1.5 billion yuan (US$200 million) and is designed to receive three million visitors annually. He would not give a date for the official opening.

The main investor, the Shenzhen-based Huaqiang Group Co., intends for the park to become the biggest high-tech theme park in China.

Jacky Wong, marketing manager of Huaqiang, said the company would continue to invest in building supplementary facilities, a residential area and a commercial center around the park in Wuhu.
