Jiangxi to Hold First Int'l Migratory Bird Festival
China's first International Migratory Birds Festival is scheduled to open on May 16 in this capital city of Jiangxi Province.

During the two-week festival, 100,000 migratory birds of all sorts are expected to gather in the Tianxiang Garden in the eastern part of Nanchang.

The garden, covering an area of 26 hectares, is considered an ideal habitat for birds. More than 400,000 migratory birds fly to the Tianxiang Garden, Xiangshan Forest Park and other parks duringthe March-September period each year.

During a recent visit to Nanchang, experts with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) said that Nanchang ranks first in the world in density of birds.

The organizing committee is inviting bird lovers from all over the world and soliciting mascots and badges for the festival. A symposium on bird protection, a horticultural show and several trade fairs will be held during the festival.
