Local Transportation Sectors Combat SARS
Local transportation sectors in Guangdong, Shandong, Heilongjiang and other Chinese provinces are taking active measures to combat severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS), said sources with the Ministry of Communications Monday.

Sanitation and sterilization work in public places including bus stops, railway stations, airports and various vehicles for passenger transportation have been strengthened, said the ministry.

In south China's Guangdong Province, passenger terminals and transportation vehicles are cleaned every day and well ventilated. In addition, a total of 190,000 brochures about SARS have been distributed at some stations and ports.

To prevent the import of SARS from other places, east China's Shandong Province also strengthened preventive measures. All taxisand buses for short and long-distance trips there are required to be sterilized and equipped with sterilization products before beginning a journey.

Other provinces like Heilongjiang and Shaanxi have set up provincial leading groups against SARS, and are taking all possible measures to prevent the epidemic from spreading.
