The mystery and intrigue of an Egyptian civilization long gone is revealed to Shanghai residents at an exhibition that begins tomorrow at the Shanghai Exhibition Center.

The show boasts the largest amount of Egyptian artifacts ever to travel outside the country -- 143 pieces, several of which have never been beyond the borders of the North African nation.

"The total value of all the pieces on display is estimated around US$260 million," said Zhu Qi, an official with the show's organizing committee.

In order to attract more visitors, a specially made pyramid and Sphinx adorn the entrance gate.

Yet the eye-catching scenery doesn't end. Statues of the Egyptian king and queen are found inside the center that covers a floor space of 3,600 square meters.

Visitors may also find golden jewelry, pictures and utensils.

In 1999, the Egyptian relics show held at the Shanghai Museum was an enormous success. The 63-day show attracted 630,000 visitors.
