Dengue Fever Cases Rise to Five in Macao

Two more patients fell ill with dengue fever, raising the number of such cases to five, the Macao Disease Prevention and Control Center announced Thursday.

The center said that blood serum tests on the two patients showed positive of dengue fever Thursday. Both of them have been hospitalized and in stable conditions.

Macao found the first confirmed case of dengue fever on Oct. 21. Another two cases were identified on the following day.

The Health Service has found that all of the five patients live in the same district in the central part of the city. The bureau has joined efforts with the Municipal Affairs Department to carry out a door-to-door cleanup and medical surveillance in the disease-affected district.

The city waged up a public campaign to prevent the proliferation of mosquitoes earlier this month in efforts to minimize the risk of possible spreading of dengue fever.
