New Road Cuts Travel Time

A new road will shorten the travel time between Guangzhou and Dongguan to 45 minutes by the end of this year.

The road, extending from Xintang Township in Zengcheng to Zhongtang Township in Dongguan, is an extension of the 47 km Guangyuan Road. It will then become the third major road linking Guangzhou and Dongguan after National Way 107 and Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway.

The new extension is 14 kilometers long with a designed speed of 80km per hour.

Tollgates will be installed but the fee has not yet been decided.

The previous 33km Guangyuan Road, which opened in September 2001, runs from Guangzhou's Tianhe District to Xintang Township in Zengcheng.

The extension road will take 17 months and cost 1.5 billion yuan (US$182 million).
