Major earthquake hits Taiwan

An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale hit southeast Hualien County of Taiwan on 8:05 a.m. Monday, local earthquake monitoring center reported.

The epicenter was located 187.7 kilometers southeast of a seismic station in Hualien, which is situated on the eastern coast of the island.

No casualties were reported.
