Hosts China claimed the men's 4x100 meters freestyle gold at the Guangzhou Asian Games on Tuesday.

Chinese swimmer Lu Zhiwu managed to overtake Japanese swimmer in the last 50m to win the relay in three minutes and 16.34 seconds.

Japan took the silver in 3:16.78, while South Korea, led by Olympic champion Park Tae Hwan, settled for the bronze in 3:19.02.

"I am happy with the gold medal," said Lu, who won the 50m freestyle gold on Monday. "We all did a good job."

"It was a very tough race," he added. "I feel so excited. We improved the relay a lot and I believe we will keep improving."

China also beat Japan to claim the men's 4x200m freestyle gold on Monday.

"We were aiming at winning the gold, but we failed," said Japanese Kim Yongsk. "We are not satisfied with the result, but we will accept it and discuss the reason when we are back to the Athletes Village."

"I am very happy that the South Korea team won the bronze," said Park, who just won the 400m freestyle gold Tuesday. "We performed our best in the relay. I hope we can get better results in the future."
