Defending champ Guangdong secure playoff spot

The defending champions Guangdong Hongyuan becomes the first team to get into the playoffs after beating Fujian SBS 102-99 in the 25th round of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Wednesday.

Guangdong's Yi Jianlian scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, Khalif Wyatt finished with 16 points, 6 assists and 3 steals, Joshua Powell had 15 points and 14 boards, Wang Shipeng had 14 points and Zhu Fangyu added 13 points.

Fujian's foreign duo, William Mcdonald and Delonte West combined with 56 points and 18 rebounds, and Zhao Tailong helped with 21 points and 5 boards.

Both teams played close in the whole game. Fujian led 81-78 at the end of the third quarter. The former NBA player player Yi Jianlian played a crucial role in the fourth quarter, helping Guangdong get its 7th winning streak and seize the first ticket for the CBA playoffs.

Bobby Brown scored team-high 34 points to help Dongguan Marco Polo edge Beijing Ducks 109-107. Besides Brown, four other players of Dongguan scored double-digit points.

Beijing's Randolph Morris scored 32 points and 12 rebounds, Ji Zhe contributed 21 points and Damien Wilkins added 18 points and 7 rebounds.

Xinjiang Guanghui, second in the CBA, crushed Bayi Fubang 141-91, the largest margin so far in Bayi's history. Bayi's veteran center Wang Zhizhi, retiring at the end of this season, finished with 11points and 5 rebounds.

Newly-promoted Sichuan Jinqiang beat Qingdao Doublestars 123-114, sending the rival its 11th losing streak. Meanwhlile, Qingdao, currently bottom in the CBA, has no chance of advancing the playoffs any more.

In other games, Jiangsu Dragons beat Shanxi Fenjiu 117-96, Tianjin Ronggang sent seven-game losing streak to Foshan Long Lions with a 113-106 road victory, Liaoning Hengye defeated Zhejiang Chouzhou 110-102, and Zhejiang Guangsha were 91-84 winners over Shanghai Sharks.
