The self-portrait by Rembrandt

Value: $ 36 million

Time: December 2000

Venue: National museum in Stockholm

The self-portrait by Rembrandt was stolen from the National museum in Stockholm in an armed robbery in December 2000. In addition to the self-portrait by the Dutch master, two paintings by French impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir were snatched from the museum located on the waterfront in downtown Stockholm.

Three men were sentenced for trying to sell a Rembrandt painting from the National Museum in Stockholm and recently recovered. The painting is said to be undamaged and in its frame. It returned to the National Museum. All three paintings stolen in December 2000 from the National Museum have been recovered.
