Central South University (CSU) is a research-oriented comprehensive university located in Changsha, capital of Hunan Province. CSU was created in 2000 by merger of the three universities: Central South University of Technology founded in 1952, Hunan Medical University founded in 1914 and Changsha Railway University founded in 1953. The university is especially noted for its great strength in engineering and medical science programs. CSU offers 82 undergraduate programs, 282 master's programs and 142 doctoral programs in 32 academic schools. It also has 24 postdoctoral mobile research stations. Presently, CSU has 33,144 full-time undergraduate students, 13,468 graduate students, 4,945 postgraduate students, and 854 international students. Its notable alumni include Liang Wengen, chairman of China's heavy machinery maker Sany Group; Wang Chuanfu, CEO of the auto maker BYD; and Chen Zhiwu, professor of finance at Yale. Notably, Liang is the richest person on the Chinese mainland on both Forbes' China Rich List and Hurun Rich List in 2011.
