Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola, a former defensive midfielder on the same team, is widely recognized as Barca's most successful manager over the course of its 113-year history. Since he took over Barcelona in May 2008, he has led the dream team to win 13 trophies over the past four years, including one Copa del Rey, two Champions League trophies, two European Super Cups, three Spanish league titles, two FIFA Club World Cups and three Spanish Super Cups.

Guardiola was named the World's Second Best Club Coach in 2010 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS). However, the 41-year old coach who now earns an annual salary of about £7.5 million at Barca, announced in late April 2012 that he will leave the team at the end of this season, admitting that he lacks the energy to continue with this particularly demanding job. But rumor has it that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has offered the talented and pragmatic manager who pushed Barca to unprecedented successes, a four-year-deal estimated at a total of £40 million (after taxes).
