First founded in 1988 in Shenzhen, Guangdong as a sales agent of a Hong Kong telephone maker, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. is now a leading global provider of telecommunication network solutions. It has overtaken Ericsson to be the world's biggest telecom equipment maker. The company serves 45 of the world's 50 largest telecom operators, as well as one third of the world's population. Huwei has more than 140,000 employees worldwide, and its total assets reached 193.3 billion yuan (US$30.7 billion) by the end of 2011. In 2011, the company reported 203.9 billion yuan (US$32.4 billion) in revenue and 11.6 billion yuan (US$1.8 billion) in net profits. In 2012, Huawei ranked 46th among the top 500 Chinese companies and 351st among Fortune's Global 500.
