Jiangxi Province produced 34.1 tons of gold in 2011, accounting for 9.45 percent of the national total. Jiangxi is rich in gold, which is mostly the byproduct of its copper resources. Jiangxi's gold resources are mainly concentrated in its northeastern areas. Its major gold producing cities include Shangrao and Jiujiang. Some of the major gold deposits include Jiangxi Jingshan Gold Belt in Dexing City (proven reserves of about 170 tons), Jinjiawu Gold Mine in Poyang County (proven reserves of 10 tons), and Lishan Gold Mine in Pengze County (proven reserves of about 10 tons). Dexing, under the jurisdiction of Shangrao, is the only gold industrial base in Jiangxi; It has proven gold reserves of more than 120 tons and prospective reserves of more than 400 tons. Jiangxi's gold output rose rapidly in recent years, up 12.73, 39.85 and 15.51 percent in 2008, 2009 and 2010, respectively.
