After graduating from Xiamen University's economics department, Wang Xianrong started working at Xiamen C&D Corporation Limited in 1984. She was promoted from accountant to manager of the finance department, before being appointed assistant to the deputy general manager. She then went on to become general manager and finally chairwoman of the company in April 2007.

In July 2012, Xiamen C&D Corporation Ltd. ranked 57th on Fortune's 2012 Top 500 Chinese Companies list. And according to Fortune, by the end of 2011, the company achieved an overall revenue of 80.25 billion yuan (US$12.87 billion), up by 21.4 percent year-on-year. In addition, it recorded a profit of 2.25 billion yuan (US$360.9 million), up by 28.2 percent year-on-year.
