After graduated from the Capital Medical University of Beijing with a major in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Sherry Liu obtained her MBA degree from the University of Chicago. Since graduating, she has worked for the CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets for seven years, Lehman Brothers for four years, and JP Morgan Chase for nearly seven years as the China area president.

In April 2011, the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) announced that Liu had been appointed China chairwoman and CEO of the bank as part of its overall investment plan in the Asia-Pacific Region. Her responsibilities include banking, financial markets, wealth management businesses and joint ventures.
